Autoimmune Disease

Occurs when the immune system of the body, which normally protects us from disease and infection, literally attacks its own cells. This leads to dysfunction of those tissues. This may be restricted to an individual organ or may involve tissues in different places like nerves, muscles, endocrine glands or the digestive organ.

We believe  that true healing cannot occur by simply masking the symptoms, so we pursue treatment  of the cause of the illness, by utilizing extensive non-invasive treatments. Dr. Childers works with hundreds of people every year. His singular goal is to help you uncover the root cause of your health issues and get you feeling better.

Common Autoimmune Disease Symptoms:

  • Fatigue
  • Joint Pain
  • Skin Problems
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Digestive Issues
  • Recurring Fever
  • Swollen Glands
There are more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases and it is one of the most frequent reasons that people visit their doctor. The most common autoimmune disease are Hashimoto's thyroiditis, systemic lupus, colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes type 1.

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

A disorder in which the immune system turns against the body's own tissues. The immune system attacks the thyroid which often leads to hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid does not make enough hormones for the body.

Systemic Lupus

Is the most common type of lupus. It causes widespread inflammation and tissue damage in the affected organs. SLE affects the joints, skin, brain, lungs, kidneys and blood vessels.

Colitis

Colitis describes inflammation of the inner lining of the colon. Symptoms of colitis can vary based on the severity of inflammation and where it occurs.

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes also know as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that is long-term, disabling and progressive. It causes inflammation, swelling and pain in and around the joints and other body organs. RA usually affects the hands and feet first, but it can occur in any joint.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord. The immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers. Eventually, MS can cause permanent damage or deterioration of the nerves. Signs and symptoms vary widely and depends on the nerves damaged and the amount of damage to those nerves.
